Making a Splash….a Mermaid Backdrop

I was asked to do a backdrop for a teen girl’s mermaid birthday party.  I knew I didn’t want it to be too cartoonish since it was for teenagers so I just went with different shades of teals and created something they could all take selfies (because we know teens LOVE selfies) in front of and  I also included lots of props they could use for picture taking.  I wanted to create something special for the birthday girl so I decided to make a matching mermaid head piece that they could use with the backdrop.

I used standard pvc pipe to build the base and then used thousands (or so it seemed) pieces of fabric ribbon and curling ribbon to create the base.  I then finished it with paper flowers and fans, white lights, starfish and a net.

A Lil Country Wedding

When my daughter came to me and told me she wanted me to plan and decorate her wedding, I was like “sure”….it was a given….I knew I was going to be doing her wedding since she was a child and I had planned every birthday party and baby shower for her and her children.  What I had not anticipated was that she wanted to have it in two months….WHAT????….but not one to ever back down from a challenge,  I headed into it with a fever to please.  Next curve she tossed my way was that she wanted it to be a country wedding with camo and orange….oh my!!!  Again, I shook it off and proceeded to conquer the design with a lot of orange, burlap and some deer antlers thrown in here and there for the groom.  The design seemed to all come together with tree stumps…..hay bales used for the seating and tables…. wheelbarrow, handmade gate, and big spools used for beverage station…back of a borrowed truck used for the buffet/food area….doors and handmade arch were used as an alter and finished off with miles of orange fabric and banner…..shepherd hooks with mason jars filled with white flowers were lined up on every “aisle”….. I did manage to sneak in lots of orange and white flowers to satisfy the girly part of me.  In the end, a beautiful wedding occurred and it did not look too much like a hunting club celebration.  Mission accomplished!!

Hello Old Friend

Seems I have been a little neglectful to this blog but no more….I have taken a new vow to keep it updated and fresh….

….with that being said, so much has come to pass since my last post and I will try to cover everything….I now have 6 grandbabies (3 of them within the last year) and just to refresh that is Caleb, Riley, Kaylee, Paislee, Trinity and Everlee….so that makes one busy Noni for sure but I can’t lie….I love every minute of it.

I have come off the road doing the scrapbook shows like Creating Keepsakes and Scrapbook Expo because I had custody of one of my grandchildren for a while and well, it made sense to stay home with a newborn.  While that definitely did not diminish my love of scrapbooking or creating beautiful things with paper…, I did have to take some time to concentrate on family but baby…I’M BACK!!!!! …and I have gotten to do it all in the comfort of my home surrounded by beautiful babies!!

My last post tells a story of one of my grandbabies turning one….wow…two years… many parties/projects/crafty love since then which I would love to share with you…..birthdays, baby showers, a wedding and more.  I love creating banners and backdrops for the parties most of all.  And I promise….I will post ALL in the next couple days but lets start with baby showers!!!  I have done three in the past year….a nautical themed one, a Mommy To Bee one, and a Baby Is Brewing theme which was actually held at a local brewery.

My Cowgirl Turns One

So here at Noni’s house, we just had another successful birthday party for another grandbaby………Ms Kaylee turned one on October 4th and we gave her a rootin tootin birthday party on the 5th.  She is such a beautiful child FULL of personality and having a cowgirl birthday party really seemed to fit in with that personality.

At last minute, I ended up making Kaylee an outfit to wear by adding some embellishments that I had gotten from MonAmiGabby at one of the scrapbook shows…..and then bought her the cutest pair of cowgirl boots to match.

We had Down on the Ranch Sliders, BBQ Sliders, Rootin Tootin Beans, Cactus Coleslaw, and Hay (really thin french fries).   I had a friend who loaned me a saddle so I put it on top of a bale of hay and we took pictures of the kids on it….TOO CUTE!!!

Here is my beautiful Kaylee.

For the favors….I bought some nice wood frames, used rubons to create all kinds of sayings on the glass and then decorated either with roses for the girls and mustaches for the boys.  The kids also got either a pink or brown goody bag—-a bandanna that had candy, a plastic horse, a mustache, earrings and other such related items inside tied up with twine and topped with a sheriffs badge.

Back From Jacksonville Convention with new Prima and MME Layouts!!

Just got back from Jacksonville, Florida convention and had a blast.  Got to touch, smell and create with the new Prima lines (AllStar, School and Divine) flowers, wood, and Mechanicals.

My Minds Eye has done it again with their Chalk Studio, Mistletoe Magic, Vintage Christmas and Haunted lines.  Also the whole Cut and Paste collection is fun fun fun.

Also Hot Off The Press has some new lines that are so fun to work with and so easy to create using the coordinating paper, die cuts and paper tole.

Below are some examples that I made for the booth——

Divine Line from Prima………with my very own Princess Fussypants!!!  A soft and pretty line that would be perfect for baby, weddings and girly pictures.

Chalk Studio from My Minds Eye…..what a versatile collection….i love all the black and white papers because vibrant pictures look really great with it.

For this picture of me and my best friend, I used the new Prima wood pieces which are so fun……they have heart, stars, butterfly and flower shapes.  Also used on this layout is the Prima  “Love, Laugh and Travel” words, new Prima flowers and bling.

My Mind’s Eye has done it again with another rocking Halloween line called Happy Haunting…….and sometimes you just have to think out of the box and use all that halloween paper that you have been hoarding for something other than Halloween photos because it is too good not to do so!!!!

This is Hot Off The Press from the Picnic line…..I used the paper line, coordinating die cuts and paper tole and a Prima vine and flowers to create this layout about the sweetness of my Riley man (and yes, I use flowers on my boy layouts all the time…..because I can…HA!!).

DSC00501And another Hot Off the Press…..North Country.  A line perfect for hiking, camping and other outdoorsy stuff.  I used the paper line, the matching paper tole and some twine, to create a layout about my little cowboy and to let you know HOW THE WEST WAS really WON!!

And forward to My Mind’s Eye new collection….CUT AND PASTE. The next four layouts (one for each line in the collection) are on the way to San Marcos, TX for the CKC show floor and trust me, the colors of all four lines are so much more fabulous than pictured.

DSC00524 (1)

This line is called “Flair”…..with the pinks, blacks and teals, it reminds me of vintage housewife and what better line to show off my goofy girls.

DSC00521This line is called Charm and would be a great one to use for the boys but I made a layout featuring one of my beautiful daughters instead.

7d43cb42-bf42-4bc7-b887-e4e76acc5ccc (1)And to showcase this awesome photo of one of my friends and his daughter, I used the Presh line.  Since I really do not journal often on my layouts, I could not NOT use the 4×6 journal cards, so I found myself using them to layer behind photos which really turned out cute.

DSC00522The Adorbs line is very colorful and almost a combination of the other three lines…..And even though I thought this one was the hardest line to work with, I found that I really loved the embellishments for this one the most–I mean, look at how cute that white flower is.

And one more thing today…..I went shopping for my grand-babies to get some binkys and what to my surprise…..I found a pack of two that had the chevron and mustache patterns on them.  So my question to you would be………is the scrapbooking industry copying the binky companies or the other way around?  Guess it really doesn’t matter except now my babies have binkys that match my scrapbook paper and even I could not have planned that any better (coming from someone who color coordinate dresses them to match the next big collection….HA!!).

Until next time……stay safe and always make sure to let your loved ones know just how much you love them every day!!!!
